New Jersey Worker Barred from Suing English Company

WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court ruled Monday that three foreign subsidiaries of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. can’t be sued in a North Carolina court over a French bus accident that killed two of the state’s residents.

The case was one of two decided Monday that barred lawsuits against foreign companies in U.S. courts.

While the Goodyear decision was unanimous, the court split three ways in a second ruling that barred a New Jersey worker’s lawsuit against Nottingham, England-based J. McIntyre Machinery. That case presented different issues because the worker’s alleged injuries happened in New Jersey instead of overseas.  [ READ MORE ]
